I am delighted to have been offered a place in the London Marathon by Heart Research UK. As many of you know, my family has a long history of coronary disease, including my Dad having his quadruple heart bypass at the age of 52. The fact that he is still going strong now 25 years later is quite the testament to his Cardiologists and the work and research that charities like Heart Research UK are able to undertake thanks to donations and fundraising efforts like this one.

Coronary heart disease is one of the single biggest killers in the UK. My Dad's parents, 5 of 6 aunts and uncles, maternal grandmother and both grandparents on his father's side all died of heart disease.
Thanks to pioneering medical research, numbers are changing. There has been a 50% decrease in the death rate from cardiovascular disease in the UK over the last 20 years.

I will be holding several fundraisers between now and October to support this fantastic charity, and would hugely appreciate any support you can give. Microsoft will also match every penny I raise, so a double bonus for HRUK.

Although I'm fundraising for Running London, it's actually part 3 of my year long London Classics goal!! I cycled 100 miles in May in the Ride London event (smashing my 6.5 hour target by 40 mins), then will also be taking part in Swim Serpentine in September, a 2 mile swim in Hyde Park. Anyone who completes those two events, as well as the London Marathon also earns their London Classics medal! As soon as I got my marathon place, I thought why not do it all in the same year :-D  (UPDATE: Unfortunately the Swim Serpentine event has been postponed to Sept 2023 so I will have to wait a little longer to complete the Classics!)
