For those who don't know I am Anna and I work for (probably) THE best youth work charity in-the-entire-world: the YMCA! More specifically, Winchester YMCA.

Half of all the money raised will go to YMCA England, and half to Winchester YMCA... What are you giving towards? Well...

The YMCA is a Christian charity, founded over 160 years ago, committed to supporting all young people, particularly in times of need- reaching out to over 1 million young people each year.

 

Across the UK, the YMCA does stuff like...

 

Housing and Homelessness - the YMCA is the largest voluntary sector provider of safe, supported accommodation in England for single men and women between the ages of 16 and 35.

 

Sport, Health, Exercise and Fitness - the YMCA is the largest voluntary sector provider of health and fitness services

 

Crime and Safety - the YMCA lead groundbreaking work with young people in prisons and ex-offenders

 

The Winchester YMCA Does stuff like...

re:fresh – right in the heart of the city centre, re:fresh is a state of the art youth cafe where 11-19’s can come, chill, meet their friends and get good advice, get access to services, play, chat, eat....  We had over 1000 visits by young people within our first month and- nearly three months on- have THE BEST group of young people that regularly come in (you know who you are...)

remix – This is a drugs and alcohol awareness and rehabilitation project working through secondary schools with young people who have a history of substance misuse or are at risk of using.  The project includes mentoring and 1-2-1 support for pupils in two of the cities secondary schools, PSHE lessons, assemblies and youth counselling.

As well as all that we do a youth exchange with Bethlehem YMCA, a ‘direction’s group for 15-16 year olds, support work in secondary schools and partnerships with local churches in the Winchester area.
