Berlin Marathon 2016 · 25 September 2016 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!
To date, I have run 12 marathons/ultramarathons and the iconic Berlin Marathon 2016 will be my 13th. It's incredibly rewarding to train for and run a marathon, but it's made that much better when it's for something bigger than just yourself. This is why I'm running for PEAS: Promoting Equality in African Schools.
PEAS is a charity that sets up and manages secondary schools in Uganda and Zambia. They have a sustainable model which builds towards being completely independent of UK fundraising. I believe that every child has the right to access a full education, but this is not the case for the majority of children in many African countries. In Uganda, 3 in 4 children do not go to secondary school and in Zambia this figure is 2 in 3. There is a severe lack of school places available for children from poor backgrounds who want to continue beyond primary school. PEAS is working to redress this unmet demand through building and operating networks of high-quality secondary schools in Uganda and Zambia. This is done through a sustainable finance model and working in partnership with Ministries of Education.
Here are some of the amazing and life changing benefits that you can bring to a child if you support and donate to PEAS:
- £5 buys a student a textbook
- £10 gets sports equipment and allows children to learn outside the classroom
- £14 buys essential lab equipment for science lessons
- £30 could provide a dormitory bed to help students attend schools that would otherwise be too far away
- £90 will create a school place for the next 20 years!!
Please join me on my journey in running the Berlin Marathon and raising money for the very worthy PEAS charity, which gives more young people in Africa the opportunity to complete secondary school and access a full education.
