Story
Hi My name is Carly, I am 10 years old, I would like to tell you my story. When I found out people can donate their hair to charity to help someone who has lost their hair through illness I was really inspired to do something. I thought my hair would be a great gift to give to another child like me of Afro-British Heritage who has lost their hair through illness.
I asked my parents if I could shave my great big Afro to donate to charity. They thought I was joking but after 6 months they gave in. My mum started looking for a charity to donate my hair to, we couldn’t find any that take afro or tightly curled hair.
After a media appeal for a wigmaker, we were contacted by many people.
The Little Princess Trust was one of the charities we contacted and initially they were unable to take my hair.
But I was so pleased when they got back to us and said they would like to accept my hair to help them and wig manufacturers search for ways to use Afro hair in wigs.
As far as we know this will be a first and I would like to raise money for the trials and support the work The Little Princess Trust does. I also hope in future with these trials, children of Afro and mixed heritage can donate their hair to help another child that looks like them. Thank you for supporting my cause.
