Story
Some of you may know that for the last two years I've run the ASICS Great British 10km for the eating disorders charity, beat. This summer, I'm pushing myself a little harder by running three 10km races and one half marathon - all in aid of beat.
The races and dates are as follows:
Sunday 11 July - ASICS Great British 10km - Done! It was a really hot day, but managed to cross the finish line in under an hour. Hoping to smash that time in Richmond next week!
Sunday 1 August - Old Deer Park, Richmond 10km - Finished this last week. I felt quite tired towards the end but enjoyed (almost) every kilometer and passed the finish line at 58 minutes! Re-plenished my energy at a nearby Bavarian sausage restaurant. Now, onto half marathon training...
Sunday 5 September - Surrey Badger half marathon - Finished in well under two and a half hours, which was my target. Really lovely course, a bit of a struggle towards the end, but it was worth it.
Sunday 17 October - Wimbledon Audi 10km
I like to raise money for beat because I have been affected by an eating disorder for many years. As a teenager I was fortunate enough to get very good treatment for my difficulties on the NHS, both as an inpatient and an outpatient - however, I now know that many sufferers aren't so lucky, and can spend months on waiting lists.
Recovering from an eating disorder is an exhausting process that can last many years. Despite still struggling mentally sometimes, the constant encouragement I have received through beat's website and helpline has given me the strength I need to continue.
Over the past few years I have discovered that there is so much life beyond my eating disorder, and I have suprised myself by how much I have achieved. I can eat out with friends, I can live independently and - if I pass my exams(!) - I will soon be a doctor.
Without support - both from the NHS and from beat - I almost certainly would not be where I am today.
