Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I want to raise money for the APP charity to help raise awareness of this cruel illness which is still unknown to so many.
There is still an urgent need for more Mother and Baby Units to help support woman affected by this condition.
I myself needed the brilliant care provided by the MBU in Leeds after suffering from Post-Partum Psychosis after the birth of both my children in both 2015 and 2018.
Intitially I had to be admitted to the MBU in Morpeth, Northumberland. as no bed was available in Leeds thankfully after a couple of weeks I was able to be transfered back to Leeds when a bed became available.
It gave me and my family an insight into the difficulty of supporting a mother and baby so far from home. Sadly, I needed to be an inpatient for 6 months on both occasions, and if I were to be so far from home it would have become very difficult for my family and friends to support me. Being local enabled my family to visit me regularly and this was a life- line to me and my family and resulted in our bonds remaining strong.
During my illness I experienced the therapeutic benefits of walking, which I tried to continue even during my darkest days. Taking short accompanied walks with staff, family, and friends always helped lift my mood.
I have challenged myself to walk 119 miles, which represents the journey I made with my first born baby to get the vital support needed, Leeds to Morpeth.
I hope, during my walks, I can help raise awareness of the care and support offered by the amazing staff who show such compassion and patience in these units, keeping mother and baby safe and supported at the most difficult and distressing times of their lives.
A message to any Mums who are suffering after the birth of their baby..Take one step at a time...Each day is a day closer to recovery..you WILL get better.
