Story

As Elis turns 11 months old and has been home for 9 months, it is now time to raise money for the incredible charity and hospital that looked after him and supported us through a very difficult and worrying time.

Born at 29 weeks weighing 2lbs 11oz, Elis spent 53 days on Buscot Ward. As a result, the start to parenthood was tough but we will be forever grateful to the Royal Berkshire Hospital, BIBS and Buscot Ward who helped save our beautiful baby boy!

We will be running the Reading Half Marathon in April for BIBS. Although we’ve both done a half before, this will be the furthest we’ve run since having Elis and it will be an emotional run around Reading as it will mark a year since we got to take him home!

From 2lbs 11oz to this very happy, healthy and cheeky baby boy, Elis continues to overcome the odds! We would be grateful for any donations which would help other premature and poorly babies and  also help support  parents. We will never forget the first Mother’s Day spent in hospital and the thoughtful gift left beside Elis.

Thank you

Anna and Gareth x

Babies in Buscot Support (BIBS) raise funds to give sick and premature newborns at the RBH the best possible start in life. The charity is run by parents that have had a baby spend time on Buscot Ward. We have been there too. That is why we care so deeply, and want to make the experience for all babies admitted to Buscot Ward and their families the best it can possibly be.BIBS work focuses in four main areas of activity, which we call keeping Buscot families "SAFE":Support - providing families with independent emotional support while their baby is on Buscot, and beyond.Awareness - we help inform parents about what to expect from a stay on Buscot by providing written information and we raise awareness of issues related to prematurity or sickness at birth.Facilities - we refurbish facilities and accommodation on the ward to provide a more homely environment.Equipment - We fund life saving equipment for the ward for example incubators, cardiac monitors, ventilators.
