As the East Midlands’ only hospice for children and young people, we brighten the short lives of babies, children and young people who come to Rainbows. We want them to have fun and make special memories. We are also here to support their loved ones through the most difficult times of their lives.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to read my story.

On 8 September 2001, my beautiful twin sons were born prematurely. Marcus was born first, but sadly, never took his first breath, I buried him a couple of weeks later. His twin brother Sebastian was immediately rushed to intensive care.  After 7  worrying weeks, he was allowed home. However, elation soon turned to sorrow, on the news that Sebastian had brain damage and severe cerebral palsy.

Sebastian died a week after his 4 birthday. He was the most amazing son and brother. In his short life, Sebastian had an incredibly positive affect and impact on everyone who met him.  He may never have been able to talk, walk or live like other children, but his wonderful smile, memorable giggle and angelic features were just a few of his very special gifts.

During Sebastian’s life, we were lucky enough to have support from Rainbows Hospice in Loughborough. Rainbows is a place for living and enriching lives, helping children like Sebastian, to reach their full potential and get the most out of their short lives.  I will always be indebted to them.

It is now my time to give something back to thank them for their  incredible support  during Sebastian’s life. Over the next 4 years, I want to complete 4 personal challenges to raise £4000 for Rainbows, which would equate to £1000 for each year of Sebastian’s life.

My first challenge (and probably the hardest for those who know me) is to lose 5 stone in weight before I turn 50 years old on 3rd September 2013. My challenge starts on 1st January 2013.

Since Sebastian was born and during the very sad years since he passed away, putting myself first has not been on my to do list – far from it. As a single parent, working full time in a stressful job, looking after 3 wonderful, yet demanding boys, “me” is just a 2 letter word.  If I can do this now and raise money for Rainbows at the same time, what could be a better reward to the memory of my beloved son Sebastian.

You can either sponsor me for achieving the 5 stone weight loss, or for each stone or pound in weight lost.
