Story
Jacari, the charity I've worked for since 2017, aims to improve the confidence and language skills of refugee, asylum-seeking and migrant children in Oxford and Bristol who have English as an additional language and are struggling at school. We run a free tuition scheme supported by volunteer tutors who provide fun, informal weekly English lessons to their pupils.
The Covid-19 pandemic has severely affected the children we work with, leaving many of them socially isolated, with very limited opportunities to practise their English. Many were unable to access online lessons during lockdowns due to the language barrier and lack of technology at home and are now months behind their peers. Never has there been a greater need for extra tuition.
As a result of the pandemic, we are experiencing an increase in demand for our tuition programme and need your help, now, more than ever, to help support our work.
