Story
You know me, I love talking about history and sharing artefacts with anyone who will listen. Through my own work at the British Museum and Wallace Collection, I found in particular that people share stories of their own trauma when exploring conflict or difficult situations throughout history. When I discovered the work of Waterloo Uncovered it felt like the perfect charity to become involved with. My husband and I have committed to supporting the charity, and on this occasion I am also taking the opportunity to reach my own mental health and fitness goals by getting running again after a 2.5 year break throughout covid and the first 2 years of motherhood.
It is a tough time to ask people for money, everyone is fighting their own battles, so even if you read about Waterloo Uncovered and think "well I cannot afford to give now but this charity sounds interesting" - then I thank you so much for reading this post.
Waterloo Uncovered combines a world-class archaeology project at the site of the Battle of Waterloo with support for the military community, using discovery to aid recovery. In addition to their on-site excavation programme, the charity runs four online programmes to provide support to veterans regardless of their location or physical abilities. All WU programmes feature year round welfare support, focussing on the five key areas: Recovery (mental and physical), Wellbeing, Transition into Civilian Life, Education and Employment.
