Story
In 2018 when the beast from the east came to visit, I left a car park in Leeds to see two homeless people were sleeping in a spot that you would only choose to avoid the coldest weather and snow. At their feet were a few donations of food. I thought what can I do to help? At home I had a duvet that I was planning on giving to charity, I felt slightly embarrassed about offering it to them, they may have been offended or found a big duvet impractical, but I trusted my instinct went home to get it and immediately brought it to them. In the past I had given homeless people money, a cup of coffee and food. Never have I seen such gratitude as when I handed the young man that duvet. I will never forget it. I believe homelessness is only going to get worse in 2019 as is possibly the weather. At this time of year when some of us enjoy getting cosy at home with underfloor heating, Aga's or a nice alcoholic drink, I want to give up the latter (I don't have underfloor heating or an Aga) and give every penny that I would use to buy myself or others a drink to SHP. Their mission is to prevent homelessness and help vulnerable and socially excluded people to transform their lives. They work toward a society in which everyone has a place to call home and the chance to lead a fulfilling life. I'd love you to join me. If you owe me a drink, would like to buy me a drink or even pour one over my head (I think I'm owed at least two of this kind) please instead donate the cost of the drink to me here. For every drink I am bought, I'll buy one back. We really can make a difference in 2019.
