Story
Age Scotland are at the forefront of helping older people to tackle loneliness and isolation. A call from their Friendship Line may be the only voice they hear each week. Winter weather and dark nights can emphasise the feelings of isolation.
We at Oriam Walking Football are very fortunate to be able to meet regularly and play a sport we enjoy. By hosting a Celebration of Walking Football on 21st November we hope to demonstrate the benefit of physical exercise to your mental as well as your physical health and raise money to allow Age Scotland to carry on their great work through the coming winter.
Eight hardy souls will take on the challenge to play continually throughout the day from 9am to 5pm against a variety of invited teams. These players are in their 50s, 60s and 70s, so playing for 8 hours with only a short break between matches is going to be very demanding. Please support them generously in their efforts.
Alongside them we shall have more than 20 teams from across Scotland taking part in competitive tournaments in both over 50s and over 65s age groups.
We will also welcome anyone who just wants a game but doesn't want to play competitively and a number of non-competition matches have been organised.
We thank Oriam for their generous support providing us with an excellent arena and the volunteers who have given up their time to help us.
We hope you will support us by giving generously and help tackle loneliness and isolation in older people.
