Story
OK, I'll be brutally honest here............. I was originally doing this because I needed a little project to get myself into shape. I've turned into a 'big fat slob' and when I heard about the 'Aspire Swim the English Channel Challenge'; I thought, 'I could do that'. Ie, swim 22 miles.............. not raise money for charity??!!
However, the more lengths I swim and the more people I talk to and the more I understand about spinal injuries, the more I realise how much money needs to be ploughed into supporting people who have been affected in this way.
To be honest, I'm still researching into the daily trauma that is faced, by not only the person who has the spinal injury; but the way the lives of their families and friends have also changed.
I signed up for this project more than a month ago but only started it on 28th September so I've got a long way to swim yet. 1200 lengths to be precise. ..............BUT I've got an even longer way to go to understand how people with spinal injuries manage to cope and deal with every day living.
I guess I'll update this when I find out more. (Though whether I have the 'techie' know how to do this remains to be seen.)
This is no longer a personal project for me to get a bit fitter. I really would love to raise a bit of money for people whose whole lives have been totally changed due to a spinal injury.
