Story
On Sunday, 3rd November 2019 I will be running the New York City marathon in memory of my wonderful daughter Elsie.
Elsie was a fun loving little girl with everything to live for. Sadly, aged just six years old, and after a short spell unwell, she was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer that is only found in young children (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma – DIPG). Devastatingly, DIPG is terminal on diagnosis and she survived for just nine short months before passing away.
For this marathon, I’m fundraising for the amazing Emily Ash Trust for a special reason as they in touch with a family whose child has very sadly just recently been given a DIPG diagnosis. The funds from this page will go directly to the Trust to grant a magical wish to that child and their family – be that a trip to Lapland or to Disneyland Paris or something just as amazing!
I’m personally very grateful to the Emily Ash Trust as they provided us with invaluable support when Elsie was unwell, including wonderful treats and experiences including a day trip to Lapland to meet the infamous man himself and all his merry helpers!
This is marathon number four for me and I’m not planning on creating any personal bests with this one – to be honest, the training has felt harder this time around and often hasn’t gone quite to plan! Instead, I hope to run happy alongside 50,000 fellow runners taking in the sights of the 26.2 mile route across five NYC boroughs with Elsie in my heart.
I know that many of you have been so generous so many times over the years – either with fundraising, giving up your time to help with events or just generally being kind and thoughtful. Thank you so much - we are forever grateful xXxXx
