Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I started raising money for the Stroke Association last year in memory of my dear Grandfather who died of a series of strokes 7 years ago. The first stroke was a minor one and he recovered 85%, the second was lot more serious and he lost his ability to speak. At the time I was only 9 years old. It was so difficult to understand why he couldn't communicate with us anymore. Before the incident he was always willing to play with us in the garden and from then on he was just watching quietly from his favourite bench. It took me a while to accept him like that but, I did eventually. Six or seven years later the unimaginable happened. An other stroke. A very very serious one. From then on he could not walk or eat, his right side of his body became paralysed. It was awful. He couldn't recognise his own family and practicly he was unable to do anything. Sometimes I could see it in his eyes how frustrating it was for him to "live in a dead body". My Grandmother was nursing him at home for 7 years and when he finally died in 2003, she died 2 months later.
I will be running my first half marathon in memory of my Grandparents on 6th March 2011 in Bath.
I would like to ask you to donate to The Stroke Association so less people would have to experience what I have experienced as a child and teenager.
Thank you once again for taking the time and vsisting my JustGiving page.
