For my 14th Great West Run I am going to try to make a difference instead of just writing out  my own cheque for £50 to a local charity.

This year, having discovered that trained Childline Volunteers are in short supply and cost over £1,500 to train up, I decided to see if I could raise enough to train up one volunteer.

If we can make it even easier for a troubled child to get through on the phone to a trained helper, this seems like a very worthwhile exercise.

Of further interest is that after 13 years of  competing with an old friend at the Great West Run and pipping each other at the post, she and I have agreed to  call a truce and cross the finishing line at the same time!
