Story
My stepmother ELIZABETH MARY RHODES (nee Rusby) passed away peacefully on 28th March 2018, after a long illness at Kirkwood Hospice aged 79 Years. She was a beloved wife of my Dad Ben, much loved Mother of Rachel and Laura, Stepmother to myself and sister Louise and a loving Grandma to seven.
Elizabeth was the opposite to the stereo type of stepmother. She was kind, caring, patient, trustworthy, supportive and as my son will tell you the most fabulous cook. Elizabeth doted on my children and had a very special relationship with my son, always surrounding him with love and support. It is in her memory I am completing this challenge and to thank Kirkwood Hospice for their care.
Kirkwood help to improve the lives of people with incurable conditions. We were always given a warm welcome by their experienced staff. They made sure that Elizabeth had the best quality of life possible and that she was able to make the most of the time the she had left. We witnessed the wonderful treatment, care & support therefore I want to raise funds and awareness of their work.
The challenge will take me through the beautiful Kent countryside to Dover, before crossing the Channel to Calais. We ride along quiet French country lanes, through traditional market towns with views of the rolling, green fields of Northern France, and pass the war memorials and cemeteries of the Somme. The pièce de résistance of this incredible challenge will be the final cycle to the Arc de Triomphe and on to the Champs-Élysées, following in the tyre tracks of the cycling greats. This will take 4 days to complete and cover 315 miles approximately.
