Peak District Trek · 15 July 2017 ·
My Dad passed away on the 6th of December 2016. Myself and my Mum stayed with him in the hospital for almost two weeks. We held his hand, talked to him, sang to him, loved hugged and kissed him, played his favourite music, all the time not quite believing what was happening. Then he slipped away.
My Dad lived with Parkinson's Disease for a number of years, but more recently Dementia had the biggest impact on his health and wellbeing. It was what ultimately took him away from us.
Dementia is cruel and it is mean.
The shock and grief has at times, been completely overwhelming. Trying to process what happened is the hardest thing I have ever done. When I saw the Peak District Trek for the Alzheimer's Society challenge, it just felt like the right thing for me to do. It will be a tough one day trek (26 miles!) based in the higher and wilder Dark Peak area. A focus that will help me to recover and feel better both physically and mentally. Raising as much money as I can for Alzheimer's Society is the perfect cherry on top.
I know my Dad will be there with me holding my hand for all 26 miles! He loved a good walk.
