Story
Hi there. I have chosen to raise money for The Hospice of St Francis because on a recent visit there I was inspired by the brilliant work it does for patients and their families.
The hospice is local to me and having two young children of my own I was particularly touched by the special area of the hospice that is designed to help children cope after losing a parent or other loved one. The letters, photographs and paintings on the wall outside of the playroom designed by these children genuinely brought tears to my eyes. £50 can provide a counselling session for a child experiencing the loss of a loved one.
The hospice has a homely feel with welcoming staff and beautiful surroundings and is one of the most respected of it's kind in the country for it's palliative care programme. It covers quite a large area in terms of who can be considered for a bed there but with fundraising efforts they can expand, modernise and keep it to the lovely standard it is. Recently a new section has been modernised with space for 2 new beds added and even a jacuzzi ! However, operating costs are huge so they rely on donations and fundraising. For example: £500 pays for an entire morning shift of nursing on the In Patient unit and £1,000 pays for a syringe driver used to administer medicine to patients.
The hospice also provides care for patients receiving treatment at home. £150 keeps the specialist home care nurses on the road for 3 weeks !
Please donate what you can so I can raise as much money as possible for the hospice !
Many thanks
