Story
Hello,
Thanks for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page.
I am going (to try!) to climb Mount Kilimanjaro this Christmas in memory of my Mother, Catherine Lowe, who died of Motor Neurone Disease (MND) in 2009 aged just 57. As many of you will know Mum was a very active person and as such this seems an appropriate way by which to remember her, as well as helping to raise awareness and money for others still suffering with MND today.
MND is a progressive neurodegenerative disease it affects around 2 in every 100,000 people annually in the UK and about 5,000 people are living with it in the UK at the moment.
MND attacks the nerves which control your muscle movement causing them to waste away, resulting in a loss of mobility in all limbs, difficulties with speech, swallowing and eventually breathing. It is a very cruel disease; sufferers become slowly paralysed and trapped in their bodies, while generally their minds remain healthy.
Very little is known about the disease and there is presently no treatment, or cure for it. You cannot fight back. The Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA) fund research, offer help, support and advice to suffers and families, as well as raising awareness and money. Their work is very important and helps people maintain some quality of life and dignity as they die. For more information check out http://www.mndassociation.org/
I have covered all
of the costs of my week long hike, travel etc. meaning that every single penny
that is donated will go to the MNDA, via Mum’s tribute fund. Here is the route and itinerary http://www.ultimatekilimanjaro.com/lemosho_route.htm
The Just Giving website is secure and easy to use. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the MNDA and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer (please remember to tick that box if it applies to you).
Much love and appreciation,
