Story

Sunday 1st August

Ta-Dah!!!

69 minutes

Not bad, in fact chuffed to have gained even half a minute on my Sunderland time.

The last 2km were killer but we were well supported - loads of Yorkies out cheering - thank you!!!

£294 raised so far - there's still time to give.

Bit of a rest from this running lark now... until I start training for the Keswich Half Marathon in April 2011... haha

Thank you, thank you, thank you. It's been fun and rewarding and your support means so much to me and to the charity.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Update Saturday 31st July 2010

Gosh, the York run has come round quick!

Really looking forward to running en masse in my home city.

Thanks to Phil from Active Care Chiropractic for running around, literally, to get the Jessie's Fund team all set for tomorrow's race.

Although our vests are white we're a colourful team...

"Phil is running... with a drum!!!
Nancy is running... 6 months pregnant!!!
Russ is running... as a fat bloke struggling to run 10k"

There are also a couple of 'elite', serious runners in there.

So my number is pinned on, my timing chip is laced-up, now for some carbs (and relaxing with a vampire movie) before a reasonably early night.

Thanks again, too, to all my sponsors - I'll give it my all!

Update Monday 19th July 2010

Well I did it. 10K in 70mins. Pretty sore today but really chuffed. First EVER sporting event. Really blown away by reading the backs of vests, learning the stories that have inspired people to run. Running for the young, the old, the recently-poorly, the never-known-a-normal-life-poorly, the taken-too-soon... all tear jerking stuff. Fantastic atmosphere though and can't wait now for the York run on 1st August - still time to donate!

Big THANK YOU to my family and friends for their sponsorship and support, especially Bri who gave me the crazy idea and looked after me on the day. x

Update Friday 9th July 2010

So with just over a week to go before the first run I managed 8K this morning - I'm sure I'll find the other 2K in me somewhere over the next week. My training (at home in York) is taking me to some of the outer-city's green spots I hadn't discovered in the 12 years I've lived here - an added bonus.

I've been overwhelmed by the support of my sponsors and I'm keen to encourage more people to contribute - just one look at the Jessie's Fund homepage will give you an idea why I feel so strongly about doing something worthwhile to help. So please tell your friends and colleagues - it's all about music and children - what could be more important?!

There has been some confusion about how to sponsor me as I'm doing 2 runs - simply, I'm treating them as one 'achievement' and there's no need to donate for each run - unless you want to give twice!

Thanks again

Angie

 What am I doing?

I'm running the Great North 10K in Sunderland on Sunday 18th July 2010

I'm also joining the Active Care Chiropractic Jessies Fund Team for the York 10K on Sunday 1st August.

Why?

I was given a leaflet at my daughter's Kindermusik class about the work of Jessie's Fund.

As a mum and a musician I was instantly touched by their story and their incredible work and wanted to do something to contribute.  I started by making a donation from my ebay sales. This is easy, passive giving almost and although it feels good to give it felt a bit like a cop-out.

My brother-in-law then somehow managed to persuade me to run the Great North 10k with him (Brian is running for Help For Heroes) and the idea of making a 'proper' effort (resulting, hopefully in a ‘proper’ contribution to the charity) rather than pence here and there really appealed to me.

Training's going well but it isn't going to be easy - nothing worthwhile ever is though, isn't that what they say?

I would love to raise £1,000 for Jessie's Fund. If you can sponsor me £10 or even 50p I would be grateful and you will be giving to a charity who use their precious funds with great consideration - so every penny really counts.

Thank you and wish me luck!
