Story
Hello!, Thank you for popping on to my page.
On 16th April 2023 I will be running the APB Newport Marathon for the Alzheimer's Society.
Why am I running a marathon ?
Those who know me will know fitness has been a big part of my life, whether previously teaching classes or taking part. In 2020, during lockdown, I gave birth to my beautiful little girl. The most amazing thing to ever happen, however at the same time I hit the lowest lows I ever have. Post natal depression and friends and family passing away in lockdown really took their toll. Exercise was the last thing on my list and I lost all confidence in myself and my abilities. There were times when I was ready to give up, however being able to lace up my trainers and go for a jog when I finally could gave me escapism and time to clear my mind of all the negative thoughts. Jogging along to music of all sorts gives me a feeling of release like no other!
Running long distances hasn't been something I was always planning to do. The 20 minute jog was doing okay but I needed a challenge, something to focus my mind on. So in Summer 2022 i challenged myself to my first ever 10km race and loved it. Looking for my next challenge in November 2022 I completed my first half marathon, after completing this I knew I could mentally prepare myself to run a marathon! I'm not a fast runner and never will be this is a challenge to complete the marathon, not a speed run! If I can get under 5 hours I will be very happy.
So why the Alzheimer's Society?
So when I decided to sign up for the marathon, I knew that I wanted to raise money and the decision on which charity was a no brainer for me!
In 2011 my beautiful Auntie Denise was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Every year my Uncle Tony organises a fundraiser evening rasing money for the Alzheimer's Society. So I thought what a fantastic opportunity for me to help the fundraising efforts for the society. I can't take the bad days away now but I can try and help the fundraising for the future.
Every penny donated is appreciated so much!
