In just over four weeks, I am both honoured and privileged, to once again be returning as a volunteer to work at the school for nine days.
I am very excited that with me, I will have Deborah Eastwood, a UK-qualified teacher who is going to be working with the teachers at the Memusi School as they prepare for the opening of the secondary school next year. Although the school follows the British Curriculum, this will be the first time that a teacher has travelled from the UK to support the teachers.
During this time, Deborah and I, would also very much like to run a medical camp for the community of Magadi.
This will be the third time that I have, personally, been involved in a medical camp at the school and each time it is probably one of the most humbling, yet satisfying, experiences of my life.
The medical camp will, once again, be the only free health check offered for miles around and reaches out to all of the community. It comprises of two doctors, a dentist, two pharmacists and medicine. Each visitor to the camp will also be able to have an eye test and be fitted with reading glasses if needed. I have, previously, witnessed an elderly man travelling 140km by foot to attend this facility.
