March 2nd - well I did it! Notable highlights:
Temperatures of 30 degrees at midday
Being covered in a layer of factor 50 with a coating of fine sand on top
Not washing for a week
Sleeping out on the dunes with the temperature dropping to 4 degrees
Finding some amazing fossils in the hamada (rocky flat bits)
Getting soaked at night with unexpected rain
Sand storms with winds of 60mph
Climbing up a 300 m sand dune
Travelling back to civilisation, standing up in a cattle truck for 3 hours going over bumpy terrain, with the bruises as evidence
Walking over 100km in 6 days
Raising around £1.5K for Macmillan Cancer Support
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm setting off today, February 21st, across part of the Sahara, from Ouarzazate to somewhere beyond Jebel Bani.
I have done three previous treks for Macmillan and raised over £15K for them. As I am paying for all the flights and costs myself all your donation will go to the Charity.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Macmillan Cancer Support gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor me now!
