I am swimming a mile across the freezing waters of Lake Windermere in the Lake District for a charity called Henshaws Society for the Blind and hoping to raise as much money as I can for this worthwhile cause. You can visit their website for information about this charity. This intrepid journey will take place on Saturday 12th September at 4.30pm.  Verification of the successful crossing will of course be produced forthwith.  My lovely friend Diane Hamer has foolishly agreed to accompany me and we are taking the training very seriously indeed. The water will be truly freezing so I have purchased a wetsuit especially designed for outdoor use but may also smother myself in lard for additional warmth and will be eating plenty of fatty foods as well over the coming weeks to add to my own inner insulation.
