Story
After watching my daughters boyfriend, Mark complete the London Marathon last year, I was humbled by the thousands of runners all raising money for charities and together with my daughters Sam and Zoe pledged to do the same thing in 2010. We all applied and eagerly awaited our letters at the beginning of October but guess what.........I was the only one who was offered a place! I have never done anything like this in my life but am up for the challenge. My training is going quite well, I am not looking to break any records, just to get around the whole course will be an achievement. Although Sam and Zoe will not be running with me on the day, they have been fantastic in helping me train and I would not be able to do this without them.
One of my biggest decisions to make was which charity to help.....there are so many that do need our help, Cancer charities, numerous childrens charities, the list is endless but evenutally I have decided to run the London Marathon in aid of St Michaels Hospice (Hereford)... A local Hospice renowned for the care and support they give those less fortunate than ourselves in their hour of need. Most people in Herefordshire wether directly or indirectly will have had some experience of the Hospice and know what a fantastic job they do. From the very first day it opened they made a committment to provide quality, individualised care to patients who have progressive, life limiting conditions and to offer support to their carers and families during the parients illness and in their bereavement. Over the course of time they have developed other services including a day hospice, family support, complimentary, lymphodedema and out-patient clinics. These services cost over £3.6 million a year, with over 90% of this provided by charitable donations.
Thankfully, I have no personal experience of the Hospice but after listening to the wonderful stories my husband Leigh has told me of the time his mother, Nic spent at St. Michaels before sadly passing away in October 1992. and watching my father in law Charles and George Cooper preform in the reunion of the Hat Band last week made my decision for me really. They have done a fantastic job in raising over £20,000 for the Hospice I would like to help them raise some more!
This is where you come in.......I know times are hard but if you could dig deep and sponsor me, I and the Hospice would be eternally grateful.
Thank you for reading my plea, sorry it goes on a bit but hopefully I will have touched a nerve and you will reach for your wallett!
