More than 1 in 6 people are affected by arthritis and this awful disease can hit people at any age.

I felt too young for such drastic measures, but I had to undergo an operation for a total hip replacement in July 2015 after having experienced a lot of discomfort and pain for the last couple of years. I'm now slowly recovering from the operation, but I know that at some time in the future, I may need my left hip operated on as well. My knees have been suffering from wear and tear since I was in my 20s and I still have no idea what caused this as osteo-arthritis doesn't run in my family.

I'm having my head shaved on 29th August in aid of Arthritis Research UK as I believe that more research is needed into the causes and treatment of this debilitating condition. Without medical research into hip replacement operation, I would have probably found myself in a wheelchair in the not too distant future.
