About Us :-
As most of us know cancer can affect all our lives at some point devasting the lives of our friends & loved ones .Breast Cancer is a disease that has affected at least 1 member of our group through a friend & according to statistics will affect another one of us in the future. Thats why we need all the support we can to STOP this happening if not for us then our Daughters, or Grand-daughters.
Our aim is to cycle 40 miles along the Basingstoke Canal. We will be starting from Cove Cricket Club at 10am on the 5th June 2010 & returning to the club at around 5pm (hopefully on the same day lol)
Any support that you can give us even just cheering us off or waiting for us to return would be much appreciated.

Sally & I start our training for the bike ride & are at this point thinking OMG 40 miles what have we let ourselves in for. As we have decided to go along the canal for the charity ride we decide we need to do off road to get used to the bumpy, muddy conditions also need to get used to the amount of people walking around as this tends to make it start stop. so will be doing most of our training around Hawley Lake & Fleet Pond.
8 Miles round Fleet pond can't be bad for our first training session. Have arranged another for the weekend for Hawley lake different scenery helps.
12th April 2010
So far we have done 4 training sessions 2 around Fleet & 2 around Hawley which one of those did result in us getting soaking wet through & looking like drowned rats, but we up to 10 miles a session now. Even the husbands & kids have been coming to do a few miles & duck feeds while we carry on round so at least we all getting out together. Comedy moment of the day Caitlin my youngest going down a hill & not putting on her brakes ending up in a heap between myself & Sally could of been worse a scrapped knee & a bruised ego but no tears & she got up & said "I couldn't find my brakes" KIDS!!!! lol
16th April 2010
Training still going well & managed a 14 miler round Fleet Pond a few minor mishaps i.e small dogs nearly being run-over by us both but made it back in one piece. Mind you did feel like De Ja Vue as saw the same women jogging at least 4 times. I have brought a bell for the bike now as you don't realise how hard it is to stop for people & then keep going also Sally got shouted at by 1 elderly lady for not ringing her bell loud enough, so now we have 2 that should be enough I think lol
22nd April 2010
All met at book-club apart from Jane (who still stuck on her holiday abroad, that damn volcano) to discuss our next books & of course our progress on our training. Eventually after a few glasses of wine & cups of coffee we get round to discussing our cycle ride. Sally & I have agreed to do 20 miles along the canal on the Saturday. Are we mad NO we just thinking of the difference that we can make for the charity.
24th April 2010
We set off at 3pm from Sally's house to do our 20 miles & OMG we had only gone 2 miles & our knees are killing us (we are going up a hill) Over the other side of it eventually & we pick up the speed. The trouble is we find the knees burn for at least 2-3 miles then tends to wear off so we know the pain will go eventually.
We get on to the canal at the round-a-bout near Laser Quest, Farnborough & yes our first comedy moment as I was trying to get my bike down a steep bank & yes I fell and the bike landed on top of me resulting in a bruised & cut shin only to get up to see Sally standing in front of me nearly wetting herself laughing after finding a safer route to get to the canal path & thinking that I was actually going to end up in the water. Well we didn't realise how hard it would be it was a very bumpy ride for at least 3 mile & we never saw a soul, all we kept thinking was what would happen if one of us had an accident :0( We made it the Mytchett Centre 2 sore bums, but still smiling. A quick stop for a drink & ice-lolly then turned around & cycled back. The route back even though the same way we came seemed quicker apart from Sally nearly knocking a young child into the canal & myself nearly decapating a Water Rat we made it back home. All in all a good ride & the BBQ that was waiting for us when we got back was an incentive. I must admit the knees, bums etc were a bit sore but we did feel so proud of oursleves for achieving it. Another training session later in the week. Oh & we must say a huge thank you to my hubby Steve Plater that baby sat 5 kids so we could actually go Bless Him :0)
28th April 2010
Sally & I arranged to do an evening ride around Hawley Woods hoping to do at least an hours worth of cycling. After us juggling baby sitting arrangements etc. we eventually set off at 7.50pm. We both find the ride hard tonight I think maybe as we only just both eaten our tea it has not helped. My knees are still burning after 6 miles & Sally is feeling the same. The ride is lovely though the sun setting over the lake & we actually see alot of people out & about. A young lad is hanging around an electricity station near when we get nearer we notice he is a graffiti artist as we pass by he stands there almost whistling trying not to look at us, by our fourth time round he has gone & his work (tag) is complete. The TA are around in the woods lying on the grass trying to look hidden we have to laugh as Sally passess she thanks them for moving out the way for us LOL. There are some dog walkers & joggers and we don't run over either which makes a change for us lol. I did nearly cause a man to have a heart-attack as I rang my bell to pass & he nearly jumped out of his skin. Lots of women walking tonight I think that they must be training for Race for Life as that is coming up soon as well. Four times we circle the woods, & my left foot has cramp & the light is fading & we dont fancy going round the woods in the dark, so we head home. 13 1/4 mile tonight which beings how we were feeling I thought it was fantastic, and I personally always have a sense of achievement when I get home. Arrived back home at around 8.15pm

Well ladies , don't know about any of you but bike riding has definateley woken up parts of the rear end that I didn't know exsisted. Being doing a few training sessions and am now confident that we will all make a great day of our ride and have many a laugh along the way. No bets on who ends up in the canal first - not mentioning any names ZED.
