Story
Why I am doing this challenge:
As many of you reading this will know - Paul was my brother, my best friend and my hero.
When he needed end of life care, at the young age of 50, he stayed at St Joseph's hospice. We stayed there together for 3 weeks and during that time I recognised that future patients would benefit further by specialised wheelchairs and headrests enabling their time there to be more comfortable.
There is also a dignity aspect to this appeal - as Paul was very weak toward the end of his life - and propping up his head with pillows and blankets caused us both distress. Providing specialised headrests and wheelchairs will mean that future patients will have this aspect of their dignity and comfort preserved.
The 3 Peaks Event , which I intend to complete during the first week of June 2021, will be physically challenging for me as I have an underlying back issue which is degenerative - but because I will be doing this 'in memory of Paul, - I know that with your help and support I will make it to the end!
During the gruelling 3 peaks challenge I will be scattering my beloved brothers ashes on each peak - so this is particularly meaningful for me.
Please give as generously as you can - both in 'Paul's memory' and also for St Joseph's - so they can continue to provide the best possible end of life care.
Below is some information about St Joseph's Hospice
St Joseph’s Hospice opened in Hackney in 1905, and since then has been caring for and supporting people affected by serious illness in eight London boroughs. We work to improve the quality of life of more than 2,100 patients with life-limiting conditions each year, helping them live life to the full, to the very last. We have to raise £19,000 each day to keep our vital services running and available to the 2.2 million people in our diverse community, so every penny raised for our hospice is really important, and very much appreciated.
