London to Brighton Cycle 2013 · 8 September 2013 ·

We support people with aphasia to enable them to re-connect with life.

Story

Right then, get your credit card out. Connect is the London Bridge Hospital nominated charity. We chose them because we wanted to support a small local charity and Connect fits the bill. The work they do is excellent.

Here is an example: Imagine your brain is thinking banana but your mouth says onion. Or imagine your brain is saying my back is really sore but your mouth is saying nothing at all.

That is what it can be like with the after effects of stroke and it is this which Connect is set up to deal with, providing support and education for people affected and their families.

So support our local charity. i get to enjoy a bike ride to brighton and you get to spend money on a great cause. Nobody loses!

About the charity

Connect is a national charity for people living with aphasia (communication disability) which is often caused by stroke. Aphasia can strike anyone at any age and at any time. 1 in every 200 people in the UK lives with aphasia and each person experiences it differently. Some people cannot speak at all, some people have just a few words. It affects reading, writing and numbers. Aphasia can lead to lack of confidence, depression, social exclusion – and people can lose their connection with the world. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Our vision is a simple one, we want a world where people with aphasia can re-connect with life again. Find out more about how we do that at www.ukconnect.org
