Story
This will be my 5th year walking to raise awareness for this cause and my dad! As many of you know, my dad has polycystic kidney disease (PKD). We are fortunate that we have a wonderful hero in the family, Della Carroll Smith, who gave one of her kidneys to my dad in 2019!
Every year, Alton and I join the Walk to END PKD in Ottawa. Our family and friends walk in their own towns and share pictures on Facebook from their own virtual walks! Every year people share a variety of wonderful pictures with us to help raise awareness: them holding End PKD signs, their pets with signs, horses with signs, t-shirts with End PKD messages, their walks, signs on buses, etc. There is a button on the top right of the picture on this page where you can view the gallery to see a few of these photos!
For those who can donate, thank you! For those who share pictures, thank you! For those who like and share these messages and pictures to raise awareness, thank you!
Today, the PKD Foundation of Canada is the only national organization solely dedicated to fighting polycystic kidney disease through research, education, advocacy, support and awareness. Our vision is that no one suffers the full effects of PKD. Your support will make a difference in the lives of 66,000 Canadians and 12.5 million people worldwide with PKD. Together, we will END PKD!
