We fund life-changing and life-saving work to support cancer patients at The Christie

Story

Hi All

Thanks for taking time to visit my Just Giving page for The Christie and welcome to the third instalment of challenges supporting UK Charities and the fantastic work they do not only for patients but also helping and supporting the families to make sure they can stay together under the most difficult of circumstances.

As most of you will know I normally do quite a lot of events through the year mainly for fun (Not quite sure about that bit). Normally I just cover one Charity (RMCH) however this year as my employer, Armstrong Fluid Technology, have decided to support The Christie I thought it would be worthwhile setting up a page to cover them as well.

The Christie is a charity pretty close to my own heart so it actually makes running this page all the more worthwhile. Not a lot of people know that when my Dad was terminally ill with cancer the help, support and dedication given by Christies helped make those last few weeks bearable and gave a massive insight into the work they do.

I always knew last year’s challenge (Ironman UK) was going to be a tough one but with the support and inspiration received finished the event in 12 hours 29 mins and 54 secs  We raised over £1,000 last year and I know that will make a difference to all at RMCH.

So what, are you asking, are you going to do this year ?

Well, as you may know my biggest challenge this year is becoming a new dad (and hoping that I never need the services of RMCH or The Christie) so training time will be chopped somewhat. But not to let anybody down I have picked an event that I thought would be slightly easier (hum, I may have underestimated that bit).

Yes, this year’s challenge is an Ultra Marathon, a 50 mile (yes 50) run. Not good enough you say, well how about if this is a trail Marathon (off road), in the lakes? Oh and it has to be completed in less than 24 hours. Good enough now?

The event is the Montane 50 Ultra. Let’s put this in perspective, Ironman cut off was 17 hours, this one is 24. Anybody who has done the national three peaks challenge will know how tough the terrain is, but imagine doing the same (3000m) ascent but instead of walking the 24 miles to complete that challenge you have to run (walk, crawl) 50 with no breaks.

It’s going to be tough, training is tough believe me, I have complete some 15 mile runs on the terrain already and I can hardly move the morning after.

As usual I have not set any fundraising targets and I am not going to be pushy, its up to you, I know it's tough times out there but if you would like to help a good cause and give me some extra motivation (trust me I will need it) please donate what you can.

Please visit this page regularly, I will update as I go along and may even add in additional events, if nothing else seeing people visit helps keep my motivation up.

Thanks for taking the time, and bearing with my waffle.

Remember any amount will help.
