Story
Break the Cycle: Mental Health Fundraising Campaign.
Andy Harris is taking part in Made for More's "Break the Cycle" fundraiser to help the charity continue to reach the young people of Northern Ireland, through mental health based workshops and resources. He will be using a hand cycle to achieve this, which will mainly be operated with his left arm as he doesn't have great range of motion in his right. This is a really difficult task for Andy but he wants to take part to raise awareness of the mental health crisis within Northern Ireland.
For those of you who don't know Andy, he sustained a traumatic brain injury & spinal injury in 2016 and has gone on a journey with his own mental health since then. The brain injury is part of the reason he is unable to write this message himself, but when asked "why this fundraiser?" he responded with "young people, stressed, worried, suicide".
Andy recently attended a celebration night at Made for More where he heard some heavy statistics about the young people in Northern Ireland, mainly that over 24% of young people have experienced or are currently experiencing a serious mental health problem. This, along with other shocking statistics, prompted Andy to do something to be part of the change so desperately needed. After a lot of research, he finally found a hand cycle that was accessible for him to use and is in the process of spray-painting it matt black, because apparently that helps you cycle faster!
All funds raised via this campaign will go directly towards the workshops in schools, youth organisations and church youth groups province wide, reaching 25,000 young people face to face & providing e-learning resources for a further 50,000 young people.
For every young person we encounter, we want to help equip them with the knowledge they need to overcome the issues they face & fulfil their potential.
To help Andy achieve the 300km, he will be joined by friends, family and members of his White Wolf Crossfit Lisburn community, who will be cycling alongside him.
We really appreciate every single donation and the support given towards Andy's personal goal, as well as Made for More NI.
