I am about to embark on the biggest personal challenge of my life, the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race.  It is the most mentally and physically challenging race in the world but it will be the adventure of a lifetime; at 68, I'm not ready for "pipe and slippers" retirement.....just yet. I want to inspire my grandsons, Oscar, Otis, Lachie and Jed, and show them that anything is achievable in life when you set your mind to it, regardless of age.

One year and 40,000 nautical miles of gut-wrenching, energy-sapping ocean racing. Did you know that more people have climbed Mount Everest than have circumnavigated the world? That's because this race is the most extreme test of endurance and stamina there is on Earth.

Sandra and I decided we would like to take this opportunity to fundraise. Cooper Parry Wealth have very generously offered to kick-start this with the first donation. Even though we have several charities close to our hearts, we have chosen 'Fight for Sight' on this occasion. This particular charity struck a chord with us recently, since hearing that a very close friend's son, who is only 16 years of age, has been diagnosed with a genetic degenerative eye condition, Stargardt disease, resulting in a progressive loss of vision.  It is devastating news; no one wants to think about their loved ones losing their sight.

There is no cure, but pioneering research is underway and desperately needed funding for medical research will aid them in their mission to stop sight loss. Any donation will be so gratefully received. All donations go directly to Fight for Sight and are not covering any costs of the race which has been self-funded.
