Welcome to Andy's fundrasing page for the 2009 London Marathon.

Hmm, now how did i get here....i think it all started following a reasonably successful completion of my first half marathon last March and receiving comments like "so when are you going to do a proper one etc". So an entry was made in the ballot last spring and, to my great surprise, a place was received in October. (The alternative entry plan involved trying to run a marathon somewhere else in under 3 hours - a big ask!). After 6 months of training i am now as ready for it as i will ever be and am not sure whether i'll ever do such an event again - i'll know this on Sunday afternoon. Given all this, i thought i should take the opportunity to try and raise some money for a good cause - and have picked the NSPCC.

UPDATE!! - my conclusion after the event was that its just too far to comfortably run - i was fairly consistent in my pacing up to about mile 20 and was on target for about 2hrs 55 but the last 6 miles were amongst the slowest i've run in my life being a battle against fatigue and cramp. the end result being a 3hrs 3min and 40sec finish - not too bad given how hot it was and my first ever race. still a good amount of money was raised for a good cause and i can now walk again after a couple of days of walking like an invalid so another marathon is not ruled out - i just want to do one in colder weather!!
