Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
After a 10 year plus absence from road cycling, I've decided to enter the Velo Birmingham (http://www.velobirmingham.com) on 24th September 2017, cycling 100 miles and raising money for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Charity.
Having only entered a couple of sportives since returning, a century ride is going to be a tough ask but the charity I intend to raise funds for is a thoroughly worthy cause.
Why the QE charity? My wife, Lou, was admitted to the QE in November 2012 for brain surgery having been diagnosed with a brain tumour that October. The tumour (meningioma) was successfully removed following invasive surgery and subsequently found to be benign, thankfully. The care and support she and our families received during her time in the hospital was second to none, as was the rehab and continued aftercare.
In October, she gave birth to our beautiful daughter and this January was given the 4 year all clear from tumour regrowth. If that isn't enough, she's also training for the Birmingham Half Marathon having completed several running events since giving birth, including the Birmingham 10k.
To this day, I firmly believe that without the specialist care of the QE, our story may be a little different and we'll be forever grateful for their support. With this in mind it's time to give a little something back.
I've set an aim to raise five hundred pounds and hope you are able to support my challenge.
A cliche it may be, but you'll never know if you're ever going to need the specialist services of the QE, we certainly never thought we would, so I hope you're able to help me ensure that others can also benefit from the amazing facilities and staff at the QE in the future.
