I DID IT! On Sunday 22 April along with thousands of other brave people, I completed the course in a time of 4hrs, 36mins. Despite having two emergency physio sessions in the days leading up to the marathon to help with a very achy right knee and fending off a cold I turned up ready to run. I managed the first half in a pretty respectable 2hrs 2mins and started dreaming of completing it in under 4hrs, however by mile 18 my energy levels were pretty much exhausted and I got a bad stitch, but the thought of our little baby girl and the brilliant cause I was running for kept me going to the finish line.
Thank you for all your very generous donations and the kind messages that you have posted on the site. Ali and I really appreciate your generosity.
I think I'll have a few weeks away from the trainers for now!
With thanks and best wishes,
Ali & Andy
On 19 November 2011, 25 weeks into our first pregnancy, Ali and I lost our beautiful daughter, who we named Flo.
A few weeks after we lost Flo I was awarded a bond place to run the London Marathon and we decided we would like to give something back to UCL Hospital where she was born, in recognition of the care, compassion and dignity they showed us, whilst we were going through this sad time.
UCLH have set up the Butterfly Fund for bereaved parents like Ali and I and the money I raise will go towards:
- Converting a room to make it a more comfortable and personal space for bereaved couples – this will include all the new furniture
- Purchasing memory boxes and camera equipment
- Buying baby clothes
Having had to use some of these services, Ali & I can testify how very important they are.
Our daughter Flo had a huge impact on us, our family and close friends; however, sadly she will never have the opportunity to make her mark on the big wide world as we would have liked. With your donations we can give back to the hospital which looked after us so wonderfully and Flo will have left her lasting legacy.
We know that times are tough, so whatever you can give we appreciate massively.
Thanks for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page.
