Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My Grandfather served during WW2. In some of the worst actions of that war. Went MIA presumed kIA and was discovered by pure chance with horrific injuries. He returned to front line service and served again with honour. He was a staunch supporter of the RBL. In his later years (60/70s) on the way to a legion event, came across a number of blokes attacking a single lad. He jumped to his defence and drove off those attackers, leaving his hands permanently damage until the day of his death.
This is the spirit that lives in all of us. Having done a small part of service myself I never envisiged I would one day need Legion support. Now I live in an RBL Village. Every day I see the support the RBL gives to service personnel and thier families. It’s humbling. Demands for help are increasing but the support funds are only finite so in order to keep up the good work they do, and will continue to do we must do something to help. Hence why I’m raising funds.
I’m recent years my own health has failed. I have amongst other things, knee & spinal damage, PTSD, and fibromyalgia. This is supposed to be a 10 k run. For me it will have to be a fast walk.
So I’m going to push myself in memory of Grandad. Do the 10k, but I shall be carrying. 35lb Bergan just like it was done years ago. As fast as I can using just my walking stick. My friends think I’m mad to even attempt this. I’m willing to put the time and effort in. Are you mad enough to donate to a cause that changes lives every day? Every pound helps in ways I couldn’t begin to list or explain.
