It will be 5 years this year since Andrew’s (Andy’s) brother Peter died of SUDEP, he was 28, he was a son, brother and uncle – we all miss him dearly, everyday – collectively as a family we have raised over £10,000 for the Epilepsy Society in previous years.
This year we will run the London Marathon, (26.2 Miles!) to raise critical funds for the Epilepsy Society, so they can continue their world-leading research into this wicked disease and hopefully save more lives, increase quality of life and help prevent the shocking grief that Andy’s parents and our entire family continue to bear.
Here are some fast facts:
- Each year around 600 people die from SUDEP,
- SUDEP is a research priority for Epilepsy Society,
- Everyday 87 people are diagnosed with epilepsy,
- 600,000 people suffer from epilepsy in the UK,
- Over £1 million is committed to research every year.
- We have set a fund-raising target of £2,620 – that’s £100 for every mile that we will run together at the London Marathon.
We know that many people and charities have found it difficult through the last year and we appreciate any donation, whatsoever.
How could your donation help?
- £20 could help get 10 crucial information packs to people at the point of diagnosis,
- £50 could fund the world-leading research project, leading to more accurate, personalised treatment,
- £100 could help the research team to analyse genomics data, which will lead to better seizure control with fewer side effects for many people,
- £1000 could fund a whole genome sequence, a scientific breakthrough which will lead to more effective seizure control while minimising side-effects,
- Please select the ‘Gift Aid’ option if you can - Gift Aid means the charity can claim an extra 25p for every £1 you give - it will not cost you any extra
- Also, if you pay tax above the basic rate, you can claim the difference between the rate you pay and basic rate on your donation - you can do this through your Self-Assessment or by asking HMRC, for example: You donate £100 to charity - they claim Gift Aid to make your donation £125. You pay 40% tax so you can personally claim back £25.00 (£125 x 20%).
We will keep you updated as our training progresses!
The Epilepsy Society has chosen the Just Giving platform as their preferred fund raising platform, please contact us if you wish to sponsor us and prefer not to use this method.
Thank you so much,
