Story
This ride is the 8th with the previous 7 now having raised over £1.4m which has been split equally between Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the Keep it Up Campaign, organised by Huddersfield Town Football club, whose share of the funds goes towards the academy, helping develop the stars of the future. These funds help keep the YAA up in the air & having just committed to buying 2 brand new helicopters all donations are kindly welcome. It costs over £4m a year to run the service & if everyone in Yorkshire donated just £1 this would cover the bill! Hopefully never, but you never know when you made need this vital service.
With the current manager, David Wagner, having come over from Dortmund it seems fitting we follow his steps back to Huddersfield, cycling 260 miles through northern Europe with a few refreshments along the way I'm sure to help raise money for such a good cause.
Thursday sees us cycling back out of Germany cross the border into the Netherlands, with the day ending at the city of Nijmegen around 85 miles later.
Friday 5 May is the longest leg for the cyclists, spanning 88 miles across the Netherlands to Rotterdam in time for the evening ferry back to Hull. No Pressure!!
On the morning of Saturday 6 May, the final leg sees cyclists make the return journey from Hull to Huddersfield, ending at PPG Canalside in a pie and peas celebration; around 82 miles in total.
We then get a traditional lap of honour at the final game of the season a day later when HTAFC hosts Cardiff City at the John Smith’s Stadium in a noon kick-off. Could be a big game for both teams for different reasons!
