Story
Thanks for taking the time to look at my fundraising for Macmillan.
Macmillan gives people with cancer everything they’ve got. If you’re diagnosed, your worries are Macmillan’s worries. Macmillan’s doing whatever it takes. But without your help, Macmillan can’t support everyone who needs them.
Macmillan are there for the long haul, through the best and sadly worst times. Celebrating the victories and seeing those they look after free from the threat of this insidious disease. They are also there to care for people and their families, ensuring the dignity of those who sadly move toward the end of their life. A task I cannot comprehend having to do.
Simply put, Macmillan are people, helping people. We need more of that in the world. A lot more.
Macmillan put a lot of effort into ensuring that everyone can get help. Increasing awareness of support available and ensuring people living with cancer have a voice. Improving access to support enabled them to reach 2.4 million people in 2021 during the height of the Covid pandemic. An amazing achievement.
Be it emotional, physical or financial support, Macmillan will do all that they can for as many people as they can.
Thankfully I have never needed Macmillan's support. There have been however, far too many family members, friends, friends of friends, colleagues and neighbours that have needed it. Macmillan were there for them.
I am proud to have supported Macmillan over the years, eating cakes and drinking coffee, climbing the odd alp or two, shaving the old brain box, but alas I am now of an age and shape where galloping up a mountain is.... not feasible :) Also my hair appears to be migrating, to where I don't know, but it leaves me with little to shave!
So to raise money to help these wonderful people I am planning a series of motorbike 'expeditions', tours, rides, rallies, videos and vlogs, hopefully all of which will help highlight the incredible work Macmillan do.
In 2022 after passing my motorbike test, I rode from Sheffield to the Swiss alps in a day. Just, well.... because I could.
In 2023 I plan to ride the North Coast 500 round Scotland, ride the Durham Hospitals Easter Charity Run again, complete the Three Nations Rallies and a host of other events all of which are aimed at promoting Macmillan.
In 2024 I will be riding to the the very Northern tip of Europe, Nordkapp, above the arctic circle, a 5000 mile round trip. All the while wild camping, exploring, wearing my Macmillan T-shirt, shouting about and waving my Macmillan Justgiving QR code in an attempt to raise money for Macmillan.
Times are hard right now. Everybody feels it. But please if you can, spare a couple of quid for this amazing group of people that provide care and comfort to those in the darkest of times.
If you need to contact Macmillan please don't wait. Get in touch with them as soon as you can, to get the support you need.
