Story

A new challenge is needed for 2017, I thought to myself.

"Have you got what it takes to conquer Kilimanjaro, Andy?" asked the serendipitous email that arrived a short time later.

And that was it. And here I am. And here you are to generously donate to my fundrasing in support of the wonderful Myton Hospices - thank you!

The team at Myton Hospices know just how precious every moment is when you or someone you care for has an illness that can’t be cured. That is why they work to ensure those final months, weeks or even hours are as good as they can be. Myton help you and your family deal with your symptoms and emotional distress to ensure you can all spend your time living your life to the full. They often work with patients over a long period of time to ensure their lives remain pain free and fulfilled.

I'll be taking on Kilimanjaro over a 7 day, 62km trek and attempt to conquer the summit which stands at 5,895m/19,340ft above sea level where the availability of effective oxygen is half that at sea level. This is about as high as you can go without needing to pack a tank of oxygen!

I've paid all my travelling costs in full, so every penny you generously donate will go to Myton Hospices to support the incredible care they provide.

Having scoured the internet for tips on how many base layers and socks I'm going to need, what temperature my sleeping bag needs to be rated to (minus 20deg C!) and just how do you go to the toilet on Africa's highest mountain (the answer, of course, is you just go to the toilet on Africa's highest mountain)... the countdown to September 23rd 2017 is on!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
