Story
The Burren Walk is in memory of Andrew Edwards who passed away on the 31st December 2020.
Andrew was only 46 and had been suffering from bowel cancer for the last few years.
He was an amazing character, a wonderful husband to Caroline and an incredible father to Oli, Charlie, and Riley. He loved his family very much. He also leaves behind his mother Lesley, sister Helen, brother and sister in-laws and nephews.
He excelled at everything that he did both in a personal and business capacity and was CEO at ETX Capital and more recently Saxo Captial Markets UK. He was universally loved and his tragic death at such a young age has devastated his family and friends.
Born in Zimbabwe in 1974, Andrew loved sport and exercise and he followed his beloved South African rugby team on their victorious journey to World Cup glory in 2019. His love of outdoor life, skiing, running and walking never diminished. He completed the Marathon des Sables (Sahara Desert) in 2015, one of the most grueling sporting events in the world. He ran the 2019 London Marathon having just completed a course of chemotherapy and still had a chemo pump strapped to his chest, such was his determination to compete in the race. That typifies the dignified way Andrew dealt with his illness and he never complained once. He took it in his stride and was incredibly brave and stoical even when his illness challenged him further.
In Andrew’s memory, a group of 15 people will be walking from Chester to Morfa Nefyn on the Llyn Peninsula at the end of July, crossing Mount Snowdon on the way. Morfa Nefyn is a place close to Andrew's heart where he spent magical summers with his family and friends. The route chosen will take 4 days covering approximately 100 miles over all types of terrain.
The reason the family have chosen Trinity Hospice is the amazing support that Andrew, Caroline, and the boys received from them at probably the most challenging time of their lives.
Their personal carer Deborah supported Andrew and Caroline with all their needs when looking at end of life care. Deborah's manner and sensitivity and the way she dealt with these devastating issues provided Andrew and Caroline with incredible reassurance.
Deborah supported them in conversations and decisions which they never for one moment thought they would have to face at this time in their lives. To have an organisation at that time who provided such incredible guidance, cannot be underestimated. Trinity Hospice provide support that is invaluable to future terminal cancer patients and their families.
Our aim is to raise as much money as possible for the Edwards’ family nominated charity – The Royal Trinity Hospice; link Royal Trinity Hospice | London
