Story
The mountains of Scotland I now regard as my back garden. And what a back garden...! Is there a finer one? Personally; I think not.
The Munros somehow become a challenge; I’m not exactly sure when or why; but nonetheless it is a challenge that has led me to have some spectacular adventures well off the beaten track; and above all create some everlasting memories...
Somewhere along this Munro Challenge Walk Highlands (http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk) came to be a resource / community that has given me so much; routes; others experiences in the hills; fun; laughter; friendship; and a few beers and banter at the notorious meets!! Thank you to Paul and Helen for a fantastic website that offers the wilderness to us all; for free.
On one of these walks; I can’t remember which; I came to think about giving something back. The wilderness has always been close to my heart; keeping it wild; leaving it as much as is possible untouched by mankind; footprints aside.
So I came to decide upon the John Muir Trust; to give something back for the many hours of fulfilment I’ve taken from the mountains of Scotland.
I’m not sure where I first heard about the Mullardoch Round. It is an absolute monster of a walk encompassing 12 Munros over 56 km with some 5,000 metres of ascent through the wilderness of the unspoilt highlands to the west of Inverness...
At about the same time I met Monty; someone I now regard as a very close friend. Can it be walked in a day we wondered? I spoke to my good friend and normal walking partner Scraggles (the star of Scraggles on Ice no less). He was in. Not long after that Tim was in; he reckons he’s got one of the highest ratios (7:27) of anyone in terms of visits to Scotland versus Munros climbed.
So, weather permitting this weekend; the four of us will be taking on the Mullardoch; attempting to complete the walk in a day; and in aid of the John Muir Trust...
If you; like me; want to give something back to the hills then you can do so here… Thank you in advance for any contributions to our wilderness.
