Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
Those of you that know me will know all about Catrin.
For those of you that don't, a brief summary.
My daughter Catrin was born on 20th September 2007, after a stressful and complicated delivery. After a few hours of being born with strange red marks all over her body, Catrin seemed to shut down.
She was rushed to the special care unit in Singleton Hospital, where it was discovered that she had suffered from a massive brain Hemorrhage.
She had no responses, no reflexes and showed no sign of improving.
It was later discovered that Catrin had suffered two strokes whilst in the womb, resulting in damage to all but one lobe in her brain.
A decision was made that Catrin would not survive without the help of the machines keeping her alive and that they would be switched off.
The family were gathered and Catrin's life support was terminated, but contrary to medical opinion, Catrin thrived and the reflexes vital to survival started to appear.
Catrin is coming up for one year old now. We are not sure of how long we will have her, but we cherish every day with her and every smile from her. She has a lot of problems and a lot of appointments with specialists, but we are very grateful for the help we receive from everyone.
Which brings me to the reason for this page. Ty Hafan have been a wonderful help to us, giving us help with Catrin in the form of respite, giving us time to focus on and spend quality time with our other daughter Lauren (Oh, and the occasional full nights sleep).
Beyond that is also the support network that exists, putting us in touch with parents of other disadvantaged children, allowing us to socialise and share advice. It's sometimes enough, just to know that you're not the only one going through it!
Ty Hafan work wonders with the very little funding they get from local government and rely an awful lot on charitable donations to do their marvelous work.
So please help me raise some desperately needed funds to ensure that they continue this marvelous work.
Many thanks,
Andrew.
