Story
Hi everyone!
Firstly a big big thank you to everyone who has so kindly donated for the cause. It really means a lot and will help to enable Arthritis Research UK continue their great work.
Well I made it! Things got tough around the 22 mile-mark, but I battled on and finished with a time of 04:49:24.
Many thanks to everyone for your kind words of encouragement, and also to those who came out on the day to support. I'd also like to say a massive thank you to my wife Kate, whose support to me throughout my training and on the day itself were simply amazing. I couldn't have done it without her!
Finally, this page will remain active for the next couple of months, so if anyone feels they would still like to contribute to the cause, it would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards,
Andrew

Hi!
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. Most of you will already be aware of why I'm running the London Marathon and why I'm trying to raise as much money as possible for Arthritis Research in the process.
I was diagnosed with arthritis five years ago. Until this point in time I had no comprehension of what it meant to have arthritis or what a dramatic impact it can have on the lives of affected individuals. 10 million people suffer from arthritis in the UK - people of all ages, and from all walks of life.
I am one of the lucky ones - after four years of a few ups and downs I finally found a combination of medication that has enabled me to manage my condition. More than manage it in fact - I've spent the last 6 months training and on the 25th April I will be aiming to fulfill a long-standing ambition by completing the London Marathon.
While I'm plodding the streets of London however, I'll be acutely aware that across the UK there will be many individuals who have not been able to alleviate their symptoms. People who are unable to perform tasks that others might consider 'everyday', due to severe pain and joints and limbs which have ceased up. I was once in such a condition - unable to leave my flat as I couldn't turn the key in the door, and unable to open my medication packaging to try to dull the pain in my joints.
I now understand arthritis, understand how it affects the lives of sufferers and those close to them, and I know that there are millions of people across the UK who could benefit from the medical advances that quality research into arthritis will provide. Arthritis Research UK is an organisation which aims to reduce the pain and disability resulting from arthritis by:
- funding high quality research into the cause, treatment and cure of arthritis and translating the results of that research to benefit patients- educating and informing the general public, patients and health professionals on all aspects of arthritis
- campaigning for better treatment and support for all those living with arthritis
- working in partnership with others to make a greater difference for people with arthritis.
I would like to raise as much money as possible for this highly worthy cause, so please dig deep and give what you can.
Thank you very much.
Andrew
