Story
WWF is the world’s leading independent conservation organisation, working to build a future where people and nature thrive together.
And a little bit about me,
I'm a GP trainee living in beautiful (& wet) Devon, UK. I've been a keen cyclist for a few years now, but started running after being given the opportunty to run the London Marathon for WWF, an amazing charity which needs our support now more than ever. Due to injury I was unable to take part in 2023 but I'm fully determined to run this year in support of WWF!
I consider myself an environmentalist, having adopted a plant-based diet almost 10 years ago and incorporating sustainable habits as I've learned them over time. In 2016 I was in Sumatra where I trekked deep into orangutan territory, and was able to witness first-hand the encroaching palm oil plantations threatening their existence. This human greed-driven destruction had a huge impact on me and the way I live, but is only one example of a much bigger problem...
Hardly a day goes by that we don't hear of the impact climate change is having on our planet. Ironically, despite the fact that developed nations are the prime culprits, it is the global south which is feeling most of the brunt, often without the means to buffer themselves. This comes at disastrous cost not only to human populations, but wildlife and habitats too. Our survival as a species is utterly dependant on the natural world, and so I choose to run for WWF because of the fantastic work they are doing. There is no issue more important. The path we are heading will only ensure that future generations will inherit a life-depleted, ravaged planet which experts say will bring famine and war. This is a heartbreaking prospect.
WWF is passionate about sharing the planet’s finite resources more sustainably, tackling climate change and protecting endangered wildlife.
WWF is at the heart of global efforts to address the world’s most important environmental challenges: safeguarding the natural world, tackling climate change and enabling people to use only their fair share of natural resources. Together we can build a future where people and nature thrive.
Your support is greatly appreciated!
