Story
In over 2 decades of Search and Rescue flying I've seen the aftermath of too many personal disasters: fatal accidents, suicides, debilitating illness. Plus my own near-misses over aircraft crashes, terrorist attacks & road traffic collisions and the violent endings of friends. I see and feel the pain, anger and confusion. Not everyone can walk things off every day without help, and if they do what about the next one, and the next. People like Cruse can help.
For those not familiar with the TGO Challenge, follow the link: http://challenge.tgomagazine.co.uk/challenge/about/faq/ It's an unsupported, non-competitive back-packing walk across Scotland from West to East coast. 240 miles, 60,000 feet of ascent, camping in wild country: plan a route, carry everything you need then turn up and cope.
While the Challenge is a celebration of the mountains and glens of the Highlands and our freedom to walk through them, for me I go out of respect that I can and remember those that can't.
