Story
Our families have each personally been impacted by dementia. The effect of this disease is heart-breaking to witness and so I aim to raise at least £2100 to support the fantastic work of Alzheimer's Society, the leading dementia charity, who are a vital source of support and a powerful force for change for everyone affected by dementia.
During 2022, I will be training for and running the London Marathon in October. I will also be running at least 1500 miles during the year. Through these physical challenges, all fundraising will be in aid of Alzheimer's Society.
Alzheimer's Society is The Football Association's official Charity this year. Whilst also campaigning for and providing funding for research to find a cure for dementia, the charity also provides support to help people and their families who are living with dementia.
By 2025, 1 million people will be living with the condition in the UK, and many millions more carers, partners, families and friends are affected.
Lack of treatments and postcode lottery for care means that people with dementia and their families aren’t getting the support they need, when they need it.
Throughout this year, I plan to visit some of the fantastic initiatives that help people live with dementia. These initiatives will focus around the role that sport, physical activity and movement can and does have in supporting people with dementia. I hope this will increase my understanding of their work so that I can advocate sustainable support programmes within the sector in my new role with Active Partnerships..
If you can sponsor me, however small I would be very grateful, as I know Alzheimer's Society would be.
Those that know me, know that I like a challenge; with that in mind I aim to do a Marathon this year in under 3hr 20 minutes - the least I can do is test myself.
