Story
This year I will be running my 3rd Great North Run and unfortunately it will be in memory of Jon Whomsley who sadly passed away in 2012 following a battle with Diabetes. I knew Jon (Womble) since 1978 and he never changed from the happy go lucky, hard working, have a go at anything person that he was. Jon was kind and generous to everyone he met and always had a positive attitude & it is going to be an honour to run in his memory and have his face beaming off the back of my running vest, hopefully inspiring me to a personal best time.
I cannot thank enough the people who have supported me from couch potato to middle-aged "athlete" and helped raise over £1500 in the last two years for Bowel Cancer UK and Cancer Research. This time I am running for Diabetes UK in memory of Jon and would be extremely grateful if my friends and family can help me raise over £500 again. Diabetes UK supports the 3m people in UK with either type 1 or type 2 diabetes. That's one in twenty of us!!
I am training even harder this year and have just completed the Cambridge Half-Marathon in 2:05:17 and hope to improve at the GNR.
If you are able to support this cause then please donate, this page is totally safe and if you are a UK tax-payer and tick the box then we get additional funds from the government.
Thanks again on behalf my myself and Jon's family
